![]() ![]() He accepted the head wrestling position (164-65) at Ripon High School, Ripon Wisconsin, before taking the position at Cedarburg.Ĭorner's contribution to Cedarburg High athletics was more of a solid foundation than a prolific flamboyance. ![]() He finished 3rd in the NCAA championships in 1956.Ĭorner coached wrestling 2 years (1959-61) at Omaha North High School, Omaha Nebraska 1 year (1962-63) at Barrington High School, Barrington, Illinois and 1 year (1963-64 as an assistant coach at Indiana University before George Martin recruited him to Wisconsin. While at Iowa State, Corner wont he Big Eight championship in 19, earning All-American honors in those same years. ![]() He won three Nebraska state high school championships while at Omaha Technical High School. Also, Corner coached the only individual state champion Cedarburg has ever had, Paul Sigler, who won his title in 1975.Ĭorner's wrestling career was brilliant. Cedarburg won regional titles or co-titles in 1974, '75, '76, '77 and '79, and a sectional championship in 1976. From 1974 through 1978, Cedarburg won 4 Braveland Conference titles, including 3 straight from 1974-1976 to become only the second Braveland school to accomplish that feat. He worked to see Cedarburg wrestling become the pride of the school. He created a cornerstone out of a doormat and his name has become synonymous with wrestling in Cedarburg.Ĭorner took over at Cedarburg in 1967 and established a wrestling program from first grade through high school. Wrestling was going no where at Cedarburg High School until Dean Corner took the school, the program, the town and shook them to their roots. However, they would finish the season an impressive 29-3.Dean Corner has been involved in the sport of wrestling in the capacity of competitors, coach, official, and contributor from 1950 to the present - a total of 38 years. Despite jumping out to a 4-0 lead, the Warhawks' bats would go cold and they would eventually fall, 6-4. That set the stage for a showdown with Burlington in the state championship game. The following night Arrowhead would take on football rival Kimberly and prevail, 2-1. Playing in Appleton the Warhawks would defeat Sun Prairie, 6-1, in the state quarterfinals. Completing their second straight undefeated conference season, Arrowhead would go on to advance to their first spring state tournament since 1957. ![]() But it was in 2016 that the Warhawks would break through. Arrowhead moved into the Wisconsin Little Ten in 2015 with Catholic Memorial and Slinger and immediately found success advancing to the sectional final. Led by Coach Vince Mancuso, the Warhawks made the switch to play in the spring for the first time since 1969. The Arrowhead baseball team would continue to be competitive and play in the Classic 8 Conference. However, the 2006 title game saw their luck run out as they lost to Marquette, 5-3. Along the way they would defeat Kewaskum, 8-1, and Ashland, 5-2. That team would go on to advanced all the way to the state championship game. The team would go on to compete for multiple sectional titles before breaking through in the 2006 season. However, after rain delays they ran into a tough Brookfield Central squad and fell, 6-2. The Warhawks defeated Campbellsport in the quarterfinals, 9-4. This time they would advance to the state semifinals. They made a return trip the following season. In 1999, the Warhawks advanced to the state quarterfinals but fell. It wouldn't be until the late 90s before they would make a return trip to the state tournament. 1998 saw the school play its first season in the newly formed Classic 8 Conference. The early 90s saw their travel increase as they played the likes of Muskego, Franklin, and others in the Southeast Conference (SEC). Throughout the 1980s the Warhawks would battle in the competitive Braveland Conference. ![]()
